Are overpowered protagonists (like SAO, Tensei Shitara Slime) ruining the isekai genre?

✨ Are Overpowered Protagonists Ruining Isekai?

Short answer: Nah. Y’all just bored.

Let’s be real — OP main characters are not the problem. It’s the lazy writing that’s the issue. Just because a dude gets dropped into another world with god-tier stats doesn’t mean the whole genre is broken. Y’all just want a reason to hate.

Rimuru from Slime Isekai. Yeah, he’s broken AF — but the plot isn’t just “I fight things and win.” He’s out here building kingdoms, ending racism, and negotiating like the chillest blue blob in anime history. That’s diplomacy, baby.

Even Kirito — who everyone loves to roast — walked so your fave OP characters could run. Was he too strong? Maybe. But SAO was a cultural moment. And for a lot of us? Our intro to isekai. Respect the classics.

Look. Overpowered characters can hit hard when the story actually does something with them. It’s not about balance — it’s about vibe, conflict, and creativity.

So no. OP characters aren’t ruining isekai. You just need better taste. 💅
